Individuals with Lived Experience

From Experience to Impact: Using Your Story to Drive Change

Navigating complex systems — whether child welfare, mental health, juvenile justice, or homelessness — provides a unique perspective that is vital to improving how those systems work. At Our Community Our Future, we center lived experience because it brings authenticity, depth, and practical wisdom to the conversation.

By sharing your story, serving on advisory boards, or mentoring others, you can help bridge gaps between policy and practice. Your voice guides efforts to make systems more compassionate, effective, and equitable.

If you want your experience to be a catalyst for positive change, there’s a place for you here. Together, we can build a community where support systems truly reflect the needs and strengths of the people they serve.

Kait Fedro

Kaitlin “Kait” Fedro is the System of Care Coordinator with Our Community Our Future, where she develops resources, programming, and collaborative tools to strengthen supports for youth and families across the Heart of Texas region. Her passion for this work is deeply rooted in her lived experience with a mental health disorder that began in early adolescence, her role as a mother to a young, neurodivergent child, and her background as an early childhood development professional. Outside of work, Kait enjoys reading with an extra-large cup of coffee and visiting favorite community spots with her family.
